Since December 1990, when the democratic movement started in Albania, students were the first to formulate one of their slogans "We want Albania just like the whole Europe". With the elections of March, 22, 1992, not only the Democratic Party that came to power, but even the socialist opposition of that time, made a change to the above slogan: "Let us make Albania just like the whole Europe!".

It is essential that this target has remained unchanged ever since, thus, expressing a popular aspiration in Albania. Given that Albanians have historically seen themselves in defence of the European civilisation and inclined towards western culture, aware of the democratic values as a present day wealth of the European people, Albanians remain determined to surpass the East-West crossroad towards the economic, political and military step-by-step integration into the representative Euro-Atlantic structures.
